To simplify the information below: I recommend keeping it as a very useful, and accurate device, for users that understand the very particular way that the Moasure device operates.
Below are my testing results of three test areas around our building: Back, Front ADA, and the Aquatics ADA ramp on the West side of their building.
- All used the stick option, and instructions indicate that this setting MUST be changed to this in the settings before measuring (stick is not default).
- I exported CAD files in both 2d and 3d (contours, surface, and lines) as well as PDF, to see how useful the information is. (It is useful)
- In CAD, it provides Points with Z value, as well as horizontals (distances between points), and when I calculated the slope on one run of the Aquatics ADA ramp, it came out to be 6.4%, which seems to track with dated ADA guidance that has only one railing against the building (newer guidance would require handrail on both sides).
- I do not have a way to test if the Z values (elevations) are accurate.
- To verify that the horizontals measurements were accurate, I took "manual" measurements with tape at four separate locations, and found the horizontals to be accurate to a tolerance between 0" and 1".
My thoughts:
- This newer version of Moasure is very accurate compared to what I used in past (6 years ago), and easy to use with the stick. (Assuming that the elevations are accurate)
- This accuracy applies ONLY IF all instruction and training is followed on how to use the device.
- If some are having trouble with getting accurate results, then it may require training on how to get accurate results. (Even the owner in the training video admits it's a persnickety device and requires precise movements and attention to get accurate results.)
- This could be a very useful device to assist with measuring project sites, as long as the user understands it's requirements.
- Since it's past the return window, and I was able to get useful and easy-to-gather data out of it in my three test measurements, I would recommend it for project usage only after the user has successfully tested it and understands how it works.
